Frequently asked questions:

Do I need any experience?

-No, none whatever. An ascent of Kili is more a trek than a climb. There is no ice-climbing involved, nor are there any technical manoeuvres on the route.

Is it dangerous climbing Kilimanjaro?

-On average there are reckoned to be four deaths a year, but considering that about 60 people attempt the mountain every day, this figure demonstrates that statistically you are 700 times safer on Kilimanjaro than you would be on Everest.

How fit do I need to be?

-If you are not used to fairly strenuous and sustained exercise, we would recommend that you do undertake some structured fitness course. This need not be anything elaborate, but you would do well to ensure that you can comfortably manage ten miles of walking a day. If you are concerned about our minimum standards, please click here.

Do I need any special kit?
-In a word No. Click here anyway for advice on kit.

What if I get sick whilst on the climb?
-If we judge your condition to be serious we’ll get you off the mountain and to safety within hours.
