Should you wish to acclimatise pre-climb and tackle Kilimanjaro with the greatest possible chance of summit success, consider the following:

Kilimanjaro ascent by the Machame Route: £640
Rtn flights, Heathrow to Kilimanjaro (incl. tax): £503*
Tanzanian tourist visa: £38
Return airport transfers (47km each way): £50
B&B twinshare, lodge accommodation: £45

Total land costs: £735
With flights and visa included: £1,276

*Cheapest listed flight this week: Dates suitable for scheduled March 2006 climb: EA Heathrow to Kilimanjaro International Airport to Gatwick, including taxes, with Expedia if booked on 15th December 2005.

Note that with respect to safety and summit success, the British Mountaineering Council recommends that those without recent exposure to high altitude should undergo three days’ acclimatisation on nearby Meru prior to their ascent of Kilimanjaro. We understand that some budgets preclude this, and some cannot afford the extra time. Where this is so we advise that an additional night spent in Arusha prior to beginning the ascent of Kilimanjaro increases considerably the climber’s ability to adapt to Kilimanjaro’s climate and altitude.
